Press Release
New indications for advantix® Spot-on
10. July 2006
advantix® Spot-on hat in Deutschland die Erweiterung der Zulassung zur Behandlung des Hundes gegen die Sandmückenart Phlebotomus perniciosus und die Stallfliege Stomoxys calcitrans erhaltenLeverkusen – advantix® Spot-on has been given regulatory approval in Europe for the treatment of dogs to control two additional ectoparasites: the sand fly Phlebotomus perniciosus and the stable fly Stomoxys calcitrans. Phlebotomus perniciosus is the most important vector of leishmaniosis. The stable fly Stomoxys calcitrans can also transmit infectious diseases and is a very annoying blood-sucking fly that primarily attacks the ears of dogs. A single treatment with advantix® Spot-on repels both insect species for three and four weeks respectively, thus preventing them from feeding on the treated dog. In total, the spectrum of activity covered by advantix® includes the major blood-feeding and disease-transmitting parasites in western and central Europe – fleas (Ctenocephalides felis), ticks (the Brown Dog tick Rhipicephalus sanguineus, the Castor Bean tick Ixodes ricinus and the Marsh tick Dermacentor reticulatus) and biting insects (the sand fly species Phlebotomus papatasi and Phlebotomus perniciosus, the mosquitoes Aedes aegypti and Culex pipiens and the stable fly Stomoxys calcitrans). advantix® contains a combination of two active ingredients: imidacloprid (10%) and permethrin (50%). It has a repellent action against ticks and mosquitoes and is also highly effective against fleas. Moreover, it is the only spot-on product in Europe, which is approved to repell and kill the Marsh tick Dermacentor reticulatus, the vector of canine babesiosis. advantix® prevents parasites from biting and stinging, thus reducing the risk of transmission of pathogens causing infections known as CVBD (canine vector-borne diseases). Relevant CVBD’s are, for example, leishmaniosis, babesiosis, Lyme borreliosis and ehrlichiosis.
