Indications for Use

Advocate® combines imidacloprid and moxidectin to provide a product which delivers activity against a range of ecto- and endoparasites, such as fleas, nematodes and mites.

The spot-on solution for cats contains 10% imidacloprid and 1.0% moxidectin, while the spot-on for dogs contains 10% imidacloprid and 2.5% moxidectin.

Advocate Spot-on solution is produced as a blister pack containing 3 unit-dose pipettes. Advocate is licensed for use on dogs older than 7 weeks of age and on kittens older than 9 weeks of age. Treatment of animals weighing less than 1kg should be based on a risk-benefit assessment.

The combination of imidacloprid and moxidectin in Advocate for dogs and cats is indicated for the following external and internal parasites (Table 1, 2):

Dogs

For the treatment and prevention of flea infestation (Ctenocephalides felis), treatment of ear mite infestation (Otodectes cynotis) and prevention of heartworm disease (L3 and L4 larvae of Dirofilaria immitis).
For the treatment of sarcoptic mange (caused by Sarcoptes scabiei var.canis), demodicosis (caused by Demodex canis) and treatment of infections with gastrointestinal nematodes (L4 larvae, immature adults and adults of Toxocara canis, Ancylostoma caninum and Uncinaria stenocephala, adults of Toxascaris leonina and Trichuris vulpis).

Cats

For the treatment and prevention of flea infestation (Ctenocephalides felis), treatment of ear mite infestation (Otodectes cynotis) and prevention of heartworm disease (L3 and L4 larvae of Dirofilaria immitis). For the treatment of infections with gastrointestinal nematodes (L4 larvae, immature adults and adults of Toxocara cati and Ancylostoma tubaeforme).

Flea allergy dermatitis

Advocate may also be used as part of treatment strategy for flea allergy dermatitis (FAD) in both cats and dogs. In addition, flea larvae in the pet's surroundings are killed following contact with a pet treated with the product.
